Bee Busy Wellness Center (BBWC) is a 501(c) (3) organization that was incorporated in August 2009 to provide primary health care services to medically underserved individuals in Southwest Houston, Harris County, Texas: Census Tracts 4336, 4532, 4533, 4534, 4535, 4536, 4537, 4538. BBWC was established after an extensive planning process initiated by the Board of Directors of the Bee Busy Learning Academy, Inc., an organization that was established in October 2000 to increase awareness of HIV/STDs and provide prevention education, confidential HIV/STD testing and awareness activities targeting the Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino populations in Southwest Houston, TX.

As Bee Busy Learning Academy’s mission is to improve the quality of life for at-risk, young adults through diverse, culturally appropriate, client-centered programs, it was apparent to the Board of Directors that a new organization was required to address primary health care services that are so desperately needed for the Southwest Community. As a result, the Board of Directors committed its time and staff to establish a new organization that focused on the development of primary health care services.

BBWC is currently in the development process of establishing a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). BBWC has established a governing board of directors that meets regularly on the third Thursday of each month. BBWC received Incubator Funds from the Department of State Health Services, Texas Primary Care Office (TPCO) to conduct a Feasibility Study and Business/Operation Plan.

It is the goal of BBWC to:

  • Improve access to care for individuals and families in Southwest Houston
  • Provide Quality and Comprehensive primary care services
  • Eliminate barriers that cause health disparities
  • Provide Community education and awareness of available services
  • Alter community norms and perceptions associated with accessing primary care services.
  • Establish collaborations and partnerships with service providers to maximize health care benefits and costs

MISSION

Bee Busy Wellness Center is a non-profit enterprise that specializes in emerging needs and challenges; addressing disparities among underserved communities, including, but not limited to, primary medical, mental health care for undeserved populations and social service needs.

PURPOSE

The purpose of Bee Busy Wellness Center is to increase access to Quality, Comprehensive Primary and Preventive Health Care and to provide education and resources to improve the health care status of underserved and vulnerable populations.

QUALITY COMPLIANCE DEPARTMENT

Bee Busy Wellness Center demonstrates its commitment to providing the highest quality of care to patients through the implementation of its Quality Assurance Department. The quality compliance department is a distinct unit within SHS with primary responsibilities in four key areas: patient safety, risk management, quality assurance and regulatory affairs.
CLINICAL QUALITY

The Bureau of Primary Healthcare, the Federal Administrator of Health Care Programs for Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), has developed a partnership with the Joint Commission that encourages Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to align themselves with Joint Commission standards of care and administration. They have established standardized measures of quality in select patient populations including diabetes, asthma and cardiovascular disease.
